ClassGuard guide for parents
ClassGuard helps your child take part in school classes on their phone. It also lets you see how their day went. This guide is for you, the parent or guardian.
ClassGuard is built by Kryft (kryft.dev).
1. Sign up
- Open ClassGuard and tap Create Account.
- Enter your name, email and a password.
- Tick I confirm I am an adult (18+). Children can never make their own account. A school or a parent creates it for them.
2. Link your child, or create a family
There are two ways, depending on how your child uses ClassGuard.
My child's school uses ClassGuard. The school gives you a school code, or an invite by email. Tap Enter school code and type it. You are then linked to your child.
I teach my child at home. Tap Create a family. Choose a family name (for example "Khan Family"). Tick that you are an adult. Then add your children. You choose their subjects and can invite a tutor.
If you have more than one child, use the child switcher at the top. The app shows one child at a time. A small coloured dot shows how that child is doing.
3. Approve your child's phone
Your child's phone cannot be used for class until you approve it. This stops anyone else's phone from joining.
- Your child installs ClassGuard on their phone and signs in. The phone shows a code or a QR code.
- On your phone, open Controls and tap Approve new phone. Scan the QR code, or type the code ("Child shows a code on their phone? Type it here.").
- The app asks you to confirm it is you (fingerprint or screen lock).
- The child's phone is now ready.
If you lose a phone or change it, set up the new phone the same way. You can also remove or unpair a phone from Controls.
4. Focus tracking: your permission
ClassGuard can check whether your child is paying attention during class. It is off until you say yes.
What it does:
- During class, the phone's front camera is used on the phone only.
- The phone works out simple numbers, like "looking at the screen" or "looking away".
- Only those numbers are sent. No picture, video or sound ever leaves the phone.
- The numbers are kept 90 days. Reports are kept 1 year.
- It uses Google's ML Kit tool on the phone. Google may send anonymous usage statistics.
When you link or add your child, a screen explains this. Tap I agree to turn it on. Tap Not now to leave it off. Until you agree, you will see "Focus tracking off — needs your OK" on your child's card.
To change your mind, open Settings, then Privacy (or Focus tracking). Tap Turn off. Focus tracking stops for that child. Another linked parent can still turn it on, and the app tells you that.
5. Exit PIN
Normally a locked phone only unlocks when class ends. In an emergency your child may need to leave early. The Exit PIN is the way to do it.
- Open Controls, then Exit PIN. Choose 6 digits your child cannot guess. Confirm it is you.
- Your child can enter the PIN on the lock screen to leave. This is logged. You see it under Exit history.
- If the phone is offline, a release code can be shown to you. You can read it out to your child.
- You can Change PIN at any time.
6. Freeze and messages
In Controls you can:
- Freeze phone: the phone is blocked until you unfreeze it.
- Message: send a short message that shows on the phone. Hold the button to send.
- Unlock the phone now, or sign the phone out.
Every command appears in the Command log so you can see what was sent and whether the phone got it.
If the phone is switched off or has no internet, the command waits and is sent when the phone is back.
7. Today, Schedule and Reports
The bottom bar has Today, Schedule, Controls, Reports and Family.
- Today: the child's next class, whether the phone is OK, how focus is going, and the last 24 hours of phone activity. Also homework to do.
- Schedule: the week's classes. You can move to the previous or next week.
- Reports: weekly and monthly reports with attendance, focus by class and time of day, distractions, hand-ins, exits, device events and teacher notes. Tap Download PDF to save one.
- Family: your children and your account.
Tap an item in a child's page to see Classwork: homework and materials, and what was handed in and marked.
8. Stars, streaks and checklist
Your child earns Focus Stars after class from their focus and being on time. Teachers can add a "Well done" star. You can see stars and badges on the child's Stars page. Stars and badges are fun only. Nothing is bought with them.
The Checklist is your child's task list. You can see it and add tasks to it. A task you add shows on the child's phone.
9. Notifications and quiet hours
Open Settings, then Notifications. You choose:
- Which topics you want to hear about,
- Quiet hours: a time when alerts are held. Choose "Hold non-urgent alerts and send one summary when quiet hours end.",
- Push alerts on this phone.
All your alerts are also kept in the notification list inside the app.
10. Download my data
Open Settings, then Download my data. You get a link to a file with your own information and your children's information. The link works for a short time.
11. Delete my account
Open Settings, then Delete my account. Type DELETE and confirm it is you. Your account is switched off right away and erased within 30 days.
- If you created a family, your children's accounts are deleted too.
- If your child's account belongs to a school, only your link is removed. The school keeps its own records.
12. Help
Use Report a problem in the app. It shows what will be sent. You can add pictures. Or write to [email protected].
